Code for Sustainable Homes Assessment

From 1st May 2008 it has been compulsory for all new homes to have a Code for Sustainable Homes Assessment certificate, even if it is a nil-rated certificate to confirm that the property has not been rated against the Code.  As a licensed Code assessor, JCN Design can carry out interim assessments at the design stage and a full assessment at the post development stage and provide the necessary certification.  Our knowledge of the system also allows us to provide consultation services on all aspects on the Code.

In addition, we can offer design packages to combine the creation of bespoke house types with the need to achieve Code Levels 3, 4, 5 or 6.  By implementing the sustainability measures at the design stage it is possible to include the requirements of the chosen Code Level at the heart of the design, thereby maximising the score for the assessment and the benefits for the customer whilst ensuring that costs are controlled and construction remains efficient.  The use of “bolt-on” elements can be successfully employed at Code Levels 3 and 4, particularly where standard house types are preferred, but to achieve a cost effective solution at Code Levels 4, 5 and 6 we believe that the property has to be designed to take account of the new standards.
