JCN were instructed by the owner to design an addition to the existing Victorian house to add much needed ground floor space and to ensure that the extension reads as part of the property and does not appear as a later addition.

The brief led to the eventual design that compliments the appearance with off white render and slate to match the existing materials.

However modern elements of design also demonstrate that this is not an original Victorian feature, Velux-style windows to light the new dining and Bi-fold doors to create an open aspect to the garden, creating a light and airy space.

The planning, design and access statement prepared in support of the application comprehensively addressed all the planning related issues and secured support of the local planning authority case officer, leading to approval.
